Department of Immigration: Faster Visa Processing Recruiting Spree

The newly minted Federal Government has made the processing of backlogged visa applications a priority for the Department of Home Affairs – specifically in categories of visa the Government has identified as an important solution for the current ongoing labour shortage that is currently affecting Australia and the world, such as skilled, student and visitor visas.

Staff have been redirected from currently obsolete areas of immigration processing, such as travel exemptions, to visa processing as part of this shakeup.

However, the Department of Home Affairs has also reported an increased volume of new application as COVID-19 restrictions are peeled back and the world resumes normal travel and economic activity.

Visa Applicants are advised to wait and see whether the planned newly directed and beefed up Department of Home Affairs is able to deliver a significant dent in the nearly 1 million visas currently in the backlog.
