Update on Skills in Demand Visa: New Core Skills Occupation List to release on 7 December 2024
On 3 December 2024, the Australian Government announced the release of the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL). This new list is part of the Government's commitment to streamline and modernise the temporary skilled visa program by replacing outdated and complex occupation lists.
What are the Key Features of the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL)?
Consolidated List: The CSOL is a consolidated list with 456 occupations. It is designed to improve access to temporary skilled migration and is informed by labour market analysis and Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA) consultations.
New Application: The CSOL will apply to the Core Skills stream of the new Skills in Demand visa, which will replace the Temporary Skill Shortage (Subclass 482) visa on 7 December 2024. This occupation list will also apply to the Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) (Subclass 186) visa - Direct Entry stream.
Further details regarding additional changes will be announced on 7 December 2024, including the Skills in Demand visa and the National Innovation visa, which will replace the Global Talent Visa (Subclass 858). These changes aim to enhance Australia’s ability to attract skilled workers to meet current and future labour market needs.
