Western Australia State Nominated Migration Program 2024-25: Process and Requirements

The Western Australian Government provides candidates the opportunity to live and work in the state through its State Nominated Migration Program.

State Nomination Application Process

Western Australia State Nomination operates under two main streams:

How to Submit an Expression of Interest?

Candidates must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) via the Department of Home Affairs’ SkillSelect database, indicating their preference for nomination from Western Australia or any state/territory.

What are the Eligibility Requirements for WA Migration Program?

The current points test pass mark is minimum 65 points. Candidates must meet the criteria for either:

Invitation to Apply

What Happens After Submitting an EOI?

Not all EOIs that meet the points test will receive an invitation, as the Department of Home Affairs is responsible for visa assessments and approvals.

Is an Invitation a Guarantee of Nomination?

An invitation to apply for state nomination does not guarantee nomination. If WA Migration Services issues an invitation, the applicant will have 28 calendar days from the date of the invitation to apply for State Nomination.

How is the EOI Information Verified?

The information provided in the EOI will be examined and verified by WA Migration Services.

Prioritisation of Applications

How Are Applications Prioritised?

Candidates are prioritised based on:

  • Location: Candidates residing in Western Australia are given priority, followed by those in the rest of Australia or outside the country.

  • Occupation: Priority is also given to candidates in specific sectors, including:

    • Building and construction

    • Healthcare and social assistance

    • Hospitality and tourism

    • Education and training

Streams Overview

General Stream Candidates

Invitations for the General Stream are issued based on the highest-ranking EOIs, considering:

  • Location

  • Occupation

  • Occupation ceilings

  • Meeting minimum requirements for the General Stream

  • Points test pass mark

  • Date of EOI submission

Graduate Stream Candidates

The Graduate Stream follows a similar process, prioritising:

  • Location

  • Occupation

  • Occupation and nomination ceilings for university and vocational education graduates

  • Meeting minimum requirements for the Graduate Stream

  • Points test pass mark

  • Date of EOI submission

How Are Applications Assessed?

State nomination applications will be assessed against the requirements for the relevant stream. This structured approach ensures effective management of the skilled migration program, prioritizing candidates who meet specific needs within Western Australia.
