India-Australia Economic Cooperation Trade Agreement 2022 – New Visas
The Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement was signed on 2 April 2022. The agreement includes a trade deal and new visas for students and workers. Under the agreement, Australian and Indian citizens will be able to work and study in each other's countries easier than ever before. Post-Study Work Visas (Subclass 485)
Australia has agreed to provide the following opportunities for former Indian students to live, study and work in Australia temporarily after finishing their studies. The following table outlines the type of degrees/qualifications and their respective duration of permission of stay granted:
Work And Holiday Visas (Subclass 462)
The work and Holiday visa arrangement will be implemented within 2 years after the Indian-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement comes into force. Australia has decided to grant up to 1000 multiple entry SC 462 visa for Indians to stay temporarily in Australia for up to 12 months.
Some of the eligibility requirements include:
Must hold a valid Indian passport
Must be offshore at the time of application and grant of visa
Intend primarily to holiday in Australia for a period of up to 12 months
The applicant must be at least 18 years of age but have not turned 31
The applicant will not be accompanied by dependent children
Possesses sufficient funds for personal support
Have not previously taken part in Australia’s “Work and Holiday” or “Working Holiday” program
Have successfully completed at least 2 years of post-secondary study
Meet health and character requirements
Meet the English requirements stipulation of “functional English”
Rights of the visa holders:
May remain in Australia within 12 months of the date of grant of visa
May leave and re-enter Australia as many times as they like
Undertake paid employment for the entire duration of their stay (generally for up to 6 months with one employer)
Undertake study or training for up to 4 months
