Supporting Innovation in South Australia Visa (SISA Visa)

There is a special visa stream available to those wanting to start a business in South Australia.

 

Under the Subclass 408 Temporary Activity Visa, there is a special stream called the Australian Government Endorsed Events. Commencing in November 2018, there is a special pilot program which opens this special stream to enhancing South Australia’s entrepreneurialism and innovation agendas. It is called the Supporting Innovation in South Australia Visa (SISA Visa).

This is a pilot program that will run for 3 years.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

The SISA visa is for you if you are:

•        Under 45 years of age

•        Have an Innovative business plan

•        Have at least Vocational level of English

•        Endorsement from the South Australian Government

•        Have sufficient funds to support yourself in the migration to South Australia

HOW CAN I BE ENDORSED BY SOUTH AUSTRALIA?

The South Australia has its own set of criteria when deciding whether to provide you with endorsement for the SISA Visa. This can be largely summarised as:

•        Primarily reside in Australia and contribute to South Australian economy

•        Certain business types are not eligible for endorsement:

o   Cafés and restaurants

o   Consulting firms/companies

o   Employment agencies

o   Export/import businesses/companies

o   Franchises

o   Foot reflexology

o   Massage parlours

o   Acupuncture

o   Traditional Chinese medicine

o   Herbal dispensing businesses

o   Geomancy/fengshui business

o   Retail

·       Need to demonstrate knowledge and expertise in the product or service you are targeting

·       A selected service provider has reviewed and approves your project proposal, idea or concept

·       50% of your assets and staff will be located in South Australia

·       The project must have strong potential to create local employment and export revenue for South Australia

South Australia will also prioritise proposals in the following areas:

•        Defence and Space

•        Cyber Security, Big Data, Digital and Blockchain

•        Food, Wine and AgTech

•        Health and Medical Technology

•        Robotics

•        Media and Film

WHEN WOULD THIS VISA NOT BE GOOD FOR ME?

•        If you wish to operate a business type not eligible for endorsement

•        If you currently hold a student visa, Subclass 403 or Subclass 771 visa

•    If you do not wish to primarily live in South Australia

HOW LONG WILL THIS VISA BE GRANTED FOR?

The SISA Visa will be granted until November 2021 when this program ends.

The SISA Visa is open for applications until November 2020.
