Updates On the Subclass 408 COVID-19 Pandemic Event Visa

On 03rd April 2020, the Australian government introduced the Temporary Activity (Subclass 408) visa Australian Government Endorsed Event (AGEE) stream in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

Following our previous article introducing the new Subclass 408 visa to combat COVID-19, we have collated some more information.

General Requirements for the Subclass 408 COVID-19 Pandemic Event Visa

  1. You are in Australia

  2. Unable to depart due to COVID-19

  3. Have 28 days or less remaining on your current visa, or your last temporary visa expired less than 28 days ago

  4. Not eligible for any other visa based on your intended activities or you have evidence that you have ongoing employment in a critical sector and an Australian citizen or PR cannot fill this position 

Will the Subclass 408 COVID-19 Pandemic Event Visa have permission to work?

For those working in critical sectors, they will be provided with permission to work but they can only work in the employment indicated in the application.

For those applying as a last resort, will not be provided with work permission.

How Long Will the Subclass 408 COVID-19 Pandemic Event Visa be Granted for? 

 Those applying for work in critical sectors will be given a visa for up to 12 months.

 All other circumstances will be granted a visa for up to 6 months.

What If I Have a No Further Stay Condition?

If you are a Subclass 403 visa holder of the Seasonal Worker Programme stream, this condition will automatically be waived when you apply for the 408 visa in the Australian Government Endorsed Event Stream. 

For all other cases, you will need to make a request for the No Further Stay Condition to be waived.
