Skills Assessment: Trades Recognition Australia (TRA)
Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) is a skills assessment service that evaluates the trade skills of individuals who have gained their qualifications either overseas or in Australia. This assessment is often necessary for migration purposes, allowing skilled workers to validate their qualifications for Australian visas such as the Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (TSS) (Subclass 482), the Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) (Subclass 186), and other sponsored work visas.
Are there Other Skills Assessment Programs?
TRA offers various skills assessment programs tailored to different occupations, visa types, and individual circumstances. The main programs include:
Job Ready Program: Designed for recent graduates from Australian vocational education and training (VET) institutions.
TSS Skills Assessment Program: This program is for applicants seeking to work in Australia under the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa.
Offshore Skills Assessment Program: This program is for individuals who are outside Australia and wish to have their skills assessed.
TRA Migration Skills Assessment: A comprehensive assessment for skilled migrants.
Migration Points Advice: Provides information on how skills can contribute to points for migration.
What are the General Eligibility Requirements for Trade Recognition Australia (TRA)?
To achieve a successful outcome in a TRA Migration Skills Assessment, applicants typically need to provide evidence of the following:
Qualification: A qualification that is comparable to the relevant Australian qualification for the nominated occupation.
Work Experience:
A minimum of three years of full-time paid employment in the nominated occupation at the required skill level.
At least 12 months of paid employment in the nominated occupation within the three years immediately preceding the application.
Occupations Supported by TRA
The list of occupations that TRA can assess is available on the Department of Home Affairs website. This includes the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) and the Consolidated Sponsored Occupation List (CSOL), which are essential for certain visa applications for skilled workers seeking to migrate to or work temporarily in Australia.
