Visitor (Subclass 600) Visa - Frequent Traveller Stream Update

What is the Visitor (Subclass 600) Visa - Frequent Traveller Stream?

The Visitor (Subclass 600) visa - Frequent Traveller Stream (FTS) allows eligible applicants to travel to Australia for tourism or business purposes. Recent amendments to the application requirements aim to broaden access to this visa stream.

What changes have been made to the Frequent Traveller Stream requirements?

1. Removal of Passport Issuance Location Requirement

Previously, applicants were required to hold a passport issued by the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and be located in the PRC when applying. This restriction has now been removed.

2. Application Location Flexibility

Applicants must either be outside Australia or in a place specified in a legislative instrument at the time of application. Currently, no specific country has been designated in such an instrument.

3. Expanded Eligibility for Nationalities

The Frequent Traveller Stream now includes applicants holding valid passports from several additional countries including:

  • Brunei Darussalam

  • Cambodia

  • Indonesia

  • Lao People's Democratic Republic

  • Malaysia

  • The People’s Republic of China

  • The Philippines

  • Singapore

  • Thailand

  • Timor-Leste

  • Vietnam

When did these changes come into effect?

The amendments commenced on 7 December 2024

Who can apply for the Frequent Traveller Stream visa now?

With the updated criteria, applicants from more countries can now apply. If you hold a valid passport from any of the specified countries, you may be eligible to submit an application for the subclass 600 visa under the Frequent Traveller Stream.

What are the benefits of applying through the Frequent Traveller Stream?

Applying through the Frequent Traveller Stream can offer several advantages, such as:

  • Streamlined Application Process: The FTS is designed for frequent travellers, which may lead to quicker processing times.

  • Potential for Multiple Entries: The visa may allow for multiple entries into Australia, making it suitable for those who travel frequently for business or tourism.

  • Easier Access for Broader Nationality: The expansion of eligible nationalities increases opportunities for more applicants to visit Australia.
