You need to become a temporary activities sponsor if you want to sponsor overseas applicants for any of the following visas: 


What are the Requirements to Become a Temporary Activities Sponsor (TAS)?

To qualify for approval, your entity must meet the following criteria: 

1. Be a Certain Type of Organisation 

Eligible organisations include: 

  • Australian organisations: Lawfully operating entities in Australia, such as: 

    • Partnerships 

    • Companies 

    • Joint ventures 

    • Not-for-profit organisations 

    • Unincorporated associations 

    • Cooperatives 

  • Government agencies: Agencies of the Commonwealth or State/Territory. 

  • Foreign government agencies: Organisations conducted under the auspices of a foreign government operating in Australia, including: 

    • Diplomatic or consular missions. 

    • Foreign tourist and media bureaus. 

  • Sporting organisations: Entities that administer or promote sports or sporting events. 

  • Religious institutions: Bodies promoting religious objectives and complying with the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997

  • Superyacht operators: Individuals or organisations involved in the operation of superyachts. 


2. No Adverse Information 

There must be no adverse information known to Immigration about the sponsored applicant or associated individuals that cannot be reasonably disregarded. 

 

3. Compliance with Sponsorship Obligations 

The sponsor must demonstrate the capacity to comply with all sponsorship obligations, which may vary depending on the visa subclass and activity type. This involves assessing the entity's ongoing viability and financial strength.


What are the Temporary Activities Sponsor (TAS) Obligations?

Below is a general list of temporary activities sponsors (TAS) obligations that sponsors must adhere to: 

  • Cooperate with inspectors. 

  • Maintain and provide records and information to the Minister. 

  • Notify the Department of certain events or changes.

  • Cover costs related to locating and removing unlawful non-citizens. 


What are the specific sponsorship obligations for tAS? 

For Training Visa (SC 407) Visa Holders

Sponsors of subclass 407 visa holders must: 

  • Ensure the visa holder undertakes the job, program, or activity described in their application. 

  • Provide a reasonable standard of accommodation for the visa holder. 


For Temporary Activity (SC 408) Visa Holders 

Sponsors of subclass 408 visa holders must: 

  • Ensure the visa holder undertakes the job, program, or activity described in their application. 

  • Provide a reasonable standard of accommodation. 

  • Cover travel costs for sponsored visa holders.
