PIC 4021: Passport Requirements for Australian Visa Applicants
One important requirement when applying for an Australian visa is to hold a valid passport. Public Interest Criterion (PIC) 4021 states that applicants must meet the passport requirements under the Migration Regulations 1994.
What is Public Interest Criterion (PIC) 4021?
PIC 4021 stipulates that a visa applicant must possess a valid passport unless it would be unreasonable to expect them to have one. In rare circumstances, it may be deemed unreasonable to require an applicant to hold a passport if the applicant was in situations such as natural disasters or war.
Why is Having a Valid Passport Important?
A valid passport is one key criterion for lodging a valid visa application. If you apply with a passport that is set to expire before a decision is made, your visa application may be refused. It is extremely important to check your passport expiry date and renew it, if necessary, before lodging your visa application.
Are There Exemptions?
Certain visa subclasses are exempt from the passport requirements under PIC 4021. These visas include:
Protection, Temporary Safe Haven and Territorial Asylum visas
Border visas
Enforcement visas
Special purpose visas
