SC485 Masters (Research) & Doctoral Degree (PhD) Graduates: Age Limits Remain at 50 years old

The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has announced that the age eligibility for students who have completed a Masters by Research or a Doctoral Degree (PhD) will remain at 50 years of age when applying for the Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) visa in the Post-Higher Education Work Stream (formerly known as the Post-Study Work stream), effective after 1 July 2024. 

What do you need to know?

  • Age Limit Maintenance: Graduates holding a Master by Research or PhD can apply for a Temporary Graduate visa for up to 50 years. 

  • Eligibility for Hong Kong and BNO Passport Holders: The age limit of 50 years will also apply to holders of Hong Kong and British National Overseas (BNO) passports for both the Post-Higher Education Work Stream and other relevant streams. 

  • Age Requirement for Other Applicants: The maximum age limit for all other applicants is 35 years at the time of application, per the updates effective 1 July 2024
