WA State Nomination: What Are the Minimum Requirements for Graduate Stream?

Candidates must meet specific requirements based on their qualifications to be eligible for an invitation to apply for State nomination under the Graduate Stream. The requirements differ depending on the occupation and its classification on the Graduate Occupation List (GOL).

What is the Graduate Stream for Western Australia Skilled Migration Program? 

The Graduate Stream is a skilled migration pathway designed for eligible international students who have completed vocational education and training (VET) or higher education qualifications in Western Australia.

What Are the Eligibility Criteria for the Graduate Stream? 

To be considered for an invitation to apply for State nomination under the Graduate Stream, candidates must: 

• Occupation Eligibility: Have an occupation listed as available and eligible for the intended visa subclass on the Graduate Occupation List (GOL). 

• Educational Qualifications: 

  • Have gained a Certificate III or higher qualification in Western Australia. 

  • Complete at least two years of full-time study in Western Australia at a recognised institution, such as: 

    • A university 

    • A higher education provider 

    • TAFE (Technical and Further Education) 

    • A registered training provider 

    • An English language provider 

What Are the English Language Requirements? 

Candidates must meet the English language requirements of the Department of Home Affairs. Accepted tests and their minimum scores for Competent English include: 

• International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Overall band score of 6.0 (with no individual band less than 6.0). 

• Occupational English Test (OET): Minimum B grade in all components.

• Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT): Minimum total score of 12 in Listening and Reading and 18 in Writing and Speaking. 

• Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic): Minimum score of 50 in all components. 

• Cambridge C1 Advanced: Minimum score of 169 in all components. 

How Can Candidates Demonstrate Proficiency in English?

To demonstrate Competent English, applicants can provide: 

• Evidence of citizenship and a valid passport from the UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, or the Republic of Ireland (Note: British National (Overseas) passports are unacceptable). 

• Valid results from one of the approved English language tests. 

How Are Documents Verified During the Application Process? 

Verification checks will be conducted on the documents submitted by candidates. This process may include contacting employers and educational institutions directly to confirm the information provided. 

What Are the Consequences of Providing False Information? 

Applicants who submit false or misleading information risk having their application refused.
