Can DAMA Sponsorship Be Used For PR If I’m Already Over 45 Years Old?
The Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA) is an initiative that allows Australian states and territories to negotiate tailored migration solutions to address specific labour shortages in these regions. One benefit of DAMA is that it provides more flexible visa options for skilled workers. However, if you are over 45 years old, you must be wondering if investing in DAMA sponsorship can still lead to permanent residency (PR).
Why Choose DAMA?
DAMA allows employers in specific regions to nominate skilled workers with occupations listed on the DAMA skill shortage list, which is separate from standard occupation lists, such as the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL). The agreement aims to fill labour shortages in specific industries while providing pathways for skilled workers to live and work in regional Australia. DAMA can be used to sponsor individuals for the following visa programs and lead to PR:
What Is the Age Factor in Permanent Residency (PR)?
The general rule for most Australian skilled visas is that applicants must be under 45 years of age at the time of application.
One of DAMA’s unique features is the higher age threshold, with some DAMA agreements allowing sponsorship for applicants up to 55 years old for specific nominated occupations.
What are the Pathways to PR?
If you are sponsored under a DAMA agreement with a SID (SC 482) visa, you may still qualify for an ENS (Subclass 186) visa for PR if you meet the visa requirements, even if you are over the age of 45.
If you are exploring the SESR (SC 494) visa under a labour agreement, similar to the ENS (SC 186) visa, as long as you meet the visa requirements, you may still be eligible to apply even if you are over 45 years old. Then, once granted, you may then apply for a Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) visa (subclass 191) - Regional Provisional stream if you meet the visa requirements.
