Update on Recent Visas Closed to Accept New Applications - March 2025

In recent events, the government has announced the appeal of 5 visa subclasses and to close for new applications for 13 visa subclasses for an extended period through the Migration Amendment (Repeal, Consequential and Technical Amendments) Regulations 2025. This removal of these visas is to streamline the immigration process and removing any outdated visas.

What Visas Subclasses have been Repealed?

Visa subclasses have now been officially repealed and closed for new applications are the following:

  • Resident Return (Temporary) (Subclass 159)

  • Confirmatory (Subclass 808)

  • Tourist visa (Subclass 676)

  • Business Skills (Provisional) (Subclasses 160, 161, 162, 163, 164 and 165)

  • Business Skills (Residence) (Subclasses 890, 891, 892, 893)

What Will Happen to these Pending Visas?

The changes will not affect visa applications lodged before 22 March 2025 or visas granted before this date.

Additionally, members of family units (MoFU) such as a newborn child or family member may still be eligible to be added as a secondary visa applicant if:

  • The original visa application was lodged before 22 March 2025.

  • The addition of the MoFU occurs before the application is finalised.
