What are the Requirements for Sponsorship for Skills in Demand Visa (Subclass 482)?

Employers who want to sponsor overseas workers must meet the specific sponsorship requirements to be eligible to start the process. Sponsoring skilled workers to fill labour shortages has 3 stages, and it can be done through the Skills in Demand (SID) (Subclass 482) visa pathway.

What are the Criteria for becoming a Standard Business Sponsor (SBS)?

To become a Standard Business Sponsor (SBS), your business must be legally established and actively opening.

  • Your business can be based either in Australia or overseas.

  • The business should be functioning and not simply a shell company. This means that you must have ongoing business activities, such as providing goods or services, and demonstrate that your operations are in good standing.

  • Additionally, businesses should ensure there is no adverse information:

    • This means that the business should not have any adverse information concerning you or anyone associated with it that affects your suitability as a sponsor. Adverse information might include past breaches of the law or serious criminal convictions. If there is adverse information within the business, reach out to an Accredited Specialist in Immigration Law for professional guidance.

  • If your business operates in Australia, it should demonstrate a strong record of employing local workers. This commitment underscores the importance of contributing to the Australian workforce.

  • Your business will also declare that it will not engage in discriminatory hiring practices. This indicates that it will treat all candidates fairly, regardless of their background, and will follow inclusive hiring processes.
