Are There Age Limits for Applying for Work Visas?
Considering working in Australia? Either for an experience or even with the purpose of moving permanently. You will have to be aware that there is an age limit associated with some visa subclasses. Age can significantly impact your meeting the visa eligibility and pathways to permanent residency (PR).
Age Limits by Visa Subclasses
However, there is no specific age limit attached to the Skills in Demand (SID) (Subclass 482) visa. However, for visa applicants who wish to apply for the Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) (Subclass 186) visa - Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) Stream, applicants must be under 45 years of age at the time they lodge these visa applications, which include applying. Hence, it is always best to plan if that is the pathway you wish to follow.
For the General Skill Migration (GSM) program, applicants must be under 45 years of age at the time they lodge to apply for these visas, which include:
Graduate Temporary (Subclass 485) visa, there is an age limit of 35 years old or under when you lodge the visa application.
Work and Travel Visas
The Working Holiday (Subclass 417) visa only allows individuals between 18 and 30 years old, with the exception of those up to 35 years old from certain countries, to apply for it.
Work and Holiday (Subclass 462) visa only allows individuals between 18 and 30 years old to apply.
Are There Any Age Exemptions?
Yes, for the ENS Subclass 186 visa, there are a few circumstances under which you can be exempted from the 45-year-old age limit. These include being a high-income earner nominated by an Australian university, a medical practitioner, or an individual holding or having applied for a Subclass 457 visa on or before 18 April 2017.
