What Happens to My Pending GTI SC858 Application Lodged before the NIV Change?

The GTI program (Subclass 858) has been replaced by the National Innovation Visa (NIV) since 6 December 2024. Here are some clarifications you may be seeking.

What Will Happen to my Pending Global Talent Visa / Distinguished Talent Visa (Subclass 858) that was lodged before 07 December 2024?

If you have applied for a Global Talent Visa / Distinguished Talent Visa (Subclass 858) before 07 December 2024, your application will continue to process. However, processing priorities will be reflected in the new Ministerial Direction 112. Note that the Department has only set a limited allocation of 4,000 places.

What happened to my Ongoing Global Talent Independent (GTI) Expression of Interest (EOI) that was lodged before 07 December 2024?

If you submitted the Expression of Interest (EOI) before 07 December 2024. Unfortunately, these EOIs will not be carried forward, so applicants who wish to apply for the National Innovation Visa (SC 858) will need to submit a new EOI to be considered.

With the NIV (Subclass 858), is it more challenging for Excellent employees to apply?

Applicants demonstrating notable excellence in their roles and holding senior positions are unlikely to qualify for the NIV criteria. The same holds true for those exhibiting organizational excellence in similar positions; they also are unlikely to meet the NIV criteria for application.
